The following highlighted places to go are located in Monroe County or the surrounding region.

Piatt Park

Piatt Park is 119 Acres with recreation including hiking through a fantastic cave/gorge area, camping, picnic shelter/house, play ground.  The hiking trails that lead to the rock shelter reward travelers with a very special scenic view into a remarkable natural gorge.

Raven Rocks

For generations, Raven Rocks has been a favorite place for hikes and outings. “The Raven Rock,” as old-timers called the largest and most accessible of its dramatic ravines and rock formations, have been the chief attraction.  This cave/gorge area is a local gem that is on private land that has recently been placed under a conservation easement with Captina Conservancy

Park

Buckchitawa Park is on the banks of Sunfish Creek, one of Ohio's most pristine waterways.

The Sunfish Creek area is blessed with geological wonders and steeped in history.

Monroe
Lake

Monroe Lake is located within the 1,333-acre Monroe Lake Wildlife Area. The lake has a boat ramp and is a fishing destination for the area.  The wildlife area provides great hunting opportunities.

Grand Vue
Park

Located across the Ohio river in WV.  Grand Vue Park offers a lot of family fun including zip lines and adventure courses

Dysart
Woods

Dysart Woods is a 400+ acre property containing 50 acres of old growth forest, accessible via a public hiking trail.  Dysart Woods is home to some of Ohio’s oldest trees and is one of only a few pockets of old-growth forest left in all of central Appalachia.

Beallsville Veteran's Memorial Park

66 acres with two athletic fields, a picnic shelter, playground equipment and 18 hole disc golf course

Kiedaisch    Point

Kiedaisch Point offers a commanding view of the beautiful Ohio River. The Point also has towering cliffs on its riverfront crag for rock climbing.

Wayne      National Forest

The Wayne National Forest is a patchwork of public land that covers over a quarter million acres of Appalachian foothills of southeastern Ohio.  The Forest features over 300 miles of trails for hiking, all-terrain vehicle riding, mountain biking, or horseback riding.

Rock River
Refuge

Rock River Refuge features views of unique sandstone cliffs and rock formations, ravines, streams, and mature old growth forest. Captina Conservancy designated this property as a refuge because we hope for it to be a place of peace, comfort and enjoyment.

Monroe Theatre

The Monroe Theatre was built in 1939 and re-opened in 2019, the theatre serves as an arts venue with a variety of acts and shows such as live music, movies, drama, local talent shows and much more.

Seneca
Lake

Seneca Lake, located in southeastern Ohio, is the state’s largest inland lake. It is a popular destination for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wide range of activities such as boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, and wildlife watching.

Archer's
Fork Trail

This 9.5-mile loop trail may be the most scenic area on the entire Wayne National Forest. This rugged loop trail includes the Irish Run Natural Bridge, a rockshelter, and some outstanding scenery.

Lamping Homestead

In the olden days the Lamping family built a homestead in the idyllic Monroe County of Ohio. Now, you can camp here on their now-uninhabited property where you’ll find a small fishing pond, a few loop trails

Park & Marina

The park includes boat access and fishing area (open year-round), a picnic shelter and restrooms.

Hollister
Parry House

This house was built in the 1860s and furnished in turn-of-the-century style. Grounds also include a dairy museum and a reconstructed one-room stone schoolhouse. Operated by the Monroe Historical Society.

Knowlton Covered Bridge

The Knowlton Covered Bridge, near Rinard Mills, Ohio, was built around 1860.  The middle span collapsed the evening of July 5, 2019. The Old Camp span has also collapsed, sometime in the summer of 2020. The bridge has recently been reconstructed.

Ring Mill

This park features a canoe access point on the Little Muskingum River, a picnic shelter, restrooms and camping.

Fly/Sistersville Ferry

The Sistersville Ferry is the last operating ferry serving West Virginia and Ohio. It is the only ferry operating on the upper 427 miles of the Ohio River.
